Log House

It's been so fun to see Ori engage in pretend play this summer. Last week Ori and Calla had each had a friend over for a sleepover (while their mommy and daddy celebrated an anniversary). They had so much fun. The boys stayed up laaate giggling and talking. About 10:30pm I sat outside Ori's bedroom door and just listened to their silly conversations, smiling. I proceeded to enter the room and semi-sternly tell them to go to sleep. They did . . . eventually.

I was a really special babysitter/mom who bribed them all with popsicles to finish their meals. It worked every time.

Ori and Wilder explored the "forest" and found what they called a "log house". They hunted for food (aka corn cobs), made a camp fire, and played cars/trucks in the dirt.

Ori and Calla continue to spend time in their log house almost every day. They collect water in old cans to take out to the house, continue to hunt for more food, and explore the forest. Most of Ori's ideas for play are from The Boxcar Children series, which he is currently loving (and so am I!).

One of the joys of living on an old farmstead is that you never know what you will find. Yesterday Ori spotted some old pots and pans in a trailer behind the barn.

You better believe those pots found a new home in the log house. They make me smile because I am positive they belonged to my grandmother.

I love the log house. Probably because it brings back so many of my own childhood memories. As children, my brother and I spent many an afternoon playing UNO and eating snacks in the log fort we built in the forest at my parent's house.

Loving these summer memories!

I love CalJane on the swing! Maybe I should have put my book down and played outside every now and then. Ha!

The pots may have even been your great-grandmother's! I used to play outside with my grandmother's old dishes and pots that my mom did not want.

I check in regularly to see if there is an update on your daughter. Each time there isn't, I say a little prayer for all of you. I know you've waited a long time, I hope it won't extend to the length of time a full term baby takes. Remind us of how many weeks each of your children were born at....I'm wondering if your daughter's homecoming will be something closer to that. Each day, your love for, and commitment to, her is growing...she is a blessed little girl.
