This takes the cake!

On: Saturday, March 3, 2012

It still makes me giggle to think about how many kind, sweet people have asked me to make a cake for them or for a loved one. One sweet blog reader from Australia even bought a cake for her birthday, but had me deliver it to a family in need (since I couldn't really ship it to her). Isn't that cool?

I am far from professional, but here are a few I have done in the past few months:

The leaves are my first shot at using gum paste. Fun stuff!

These were "side cakes" for a wedding. I do not have the capabilities to do an actual wedding cake, but loved that the bride and groom wanted to support adoption with their wedding expenses and valued that in their decision making. Thanks N and C; I was honored!

This was a large cupcake cake for a one-year-old's birthday party.

The cupcake wrapper is a mold made out of chocolate candy melts. The tutorial is here. So fun!

Regular cupcakes to go along with the big cupcake cake.

Winter One-derland Party Cupcakes for another sweet friend (who is also adopting). The snowflakes were made out of royal icing (another experiment; thanks, Ian, for your help).

But do you know what "takes the cake?" God is using the donations from these cakes to help fund our adoption. I mailed a bill to the agency for $390 dollars this week. Guess how much money was raised through baking cakes the past week and a half? $390 dollars. TO THE DOLLAR. How awesome is that? God, once again, showed how much He loves us and is personally involved in this process. He showed me that He cares for the orphan and desires for our little one to come home to our family. I needed that encouragement this week because waiting is so hard. I feel so distracted as we wait for a referral. We wake up each day wondering if "today" is the day we will see our little one's face for the first time . . . what a day that will be!

And to the anonymous donor who gave so generously to our adoption last Sunday: THANK YOU. Your gift caused us to give thanks to the Lord and was such a blessing. I had tears during worship. Thank you for giving to the orphan and for loving our family.
