Here is a list of what is in the sensory tub:
- black beans
- handmade orange and black pompoms (click here for tutorial)
- yarn pumpkins (click here for tutorial)
- mice from Wal-Mart (these are Ori's new best friends. They are always in his hands or riding in his trucks these days.)
- tongs
- plastic bugs
- measuring cups, funnel, etc.

Yesterday, after feeling like a totally-lame-sickly-couch-potato-mother, we made spiders out of egg cartons. Ori painted the carton black and glued on the eyes.

I added the legs. He loved playing with these spiders.

As for Calla, she participates by dressing like a pumpkin (sorry for the hideous picture--my picture taking skills must be sick too). She started attempting to put handfuls of beans in her mouth and is now, much to Ori's dismay, banned from the bean tub.

Speaking of Calla, she is learning some cool new tricks lately. Let's just say that she has mastered the army crawl. We met with Rainbows today and they are a little concerned with her speech. She doesn't really say many vowels or consonant sounds like one would expect at her age. I actually feel like she "talks" less now than she did a month ago. I was told that sometimes when a child takes off in one developmental area (like Calla has physically), another area temporarily lags behind (like her speech). We'll see. I am supposed to bombard her with sounds for the next month. I feel very silly doing it, but I guess I need to do my assignment.

Daddy comes home late tonight! We can't wait.

I love reading about your activities for Ori. He's going to be the smartest kid on the block! And, as always, Calla is just about the cutest. :)
You are such a good mommy. :)
Look at you being fun while sick! :) Umm, maybe this is a "dumb" question, but what should Calla be saying? My daughter is darn near two and doesn't say a lot...this confuses me?!
Oh and Target is ALWAYS the better choice. :) If I never saw another Wally world again it would be too soon! HA!
Michele, she is just supposed to be saying things like, "babababa, dadadada, mamamama", and then just vowel sounds. She basically should just be exploring more with her sounds and she is pretty quiet when she plays (except for laughing!). I didn't think anything of it until today. Sometimes I think it is better to just be oblivious to these kind of things. ha. We need to get her hearing checked and make sure that isn't an issue (I don't think it is, but will be good to rule out for sure).
Yay for Rainbows! My friend Amy works there.
Such fun activities for the kiddos! I think I would freak out if I saw those mice all over my house though. :)
i am a lame mom. you are a cool mom. the end.
:)
I have been wanting to tell you for a long time but was having difficulties signing in...I loved Ori's tractor cake for his birthday. ;) I made Mason the same one for his birthday in August and my icing job was not near as great! Mason would be so jealous of the Gator...that is what he is asking Santa for this year!! Ha!
Where do you buy your beans for the sensory tub? Do you buy them in bulk somewhere? It looks like you use a lot and I was thinking it would get pricey if you bought them in individual packages.
Tabitha, I just buy the beans at Wal-Mart. They sometimes have HUGE bags for 5 or 6 dollars. The black beans I used around 5 small bags (they cover the bottom, but it isn't deep). I probably spent 6 dollars, which is a stretch for me. However, you can reuse them. I just put them in bags/containers when I change the tub, store them, and get them back out again several months later. And for the amount of time Ori spends in the bean tub, the cost is worth it to me. ;)
